Locking your Android tablet to a single application for use as a kiosk


If you’re looking to use your tablet in aSingle-Use,Multi-User capacity in a public environment, you’ll no doubt be wanting to know how lock down the tablet to your desired application. Here’s a simple ‘how to’ on enabling ‘Screen pinning’ (sometimes referred to as kiosk mode).


You’ll Find the Screen pinning feature within your tablet’s security settings – It’s a simple and intuitive way to prevent users from switching in and out of other apps or accessing additional features on the tablet.


To set up Screen pinning:

  1. Go to:Settings > Securityor Security & location > Other security settings > Pin windowson your tablet
  2. Toggle the switch to ‘On’
  3. Toggle the switch to ‘On’ for Ask for PIN before unpinning 

To pin an app to the screen:

  1. Open the app. that you want to lock the tablet to
  2. Press the ‘Overview’ button
  3. If there is an app icon at the top of your chosen app, press and hold the icon then select ‘Pin this app’

If there is no app icon at the top of your chosen app, press and hold on the app, then select ‘Pin’


To unpin an app from the screen:

  1. Press and hold the ‘Overview’ and ‘Back’ buttons simultaneously
  2. Enter your PIN when requested after waking the tablet
